The artist criticizes the environmental erosion of the work that can be seen in Menador until February 26 after his residence in Berlin.
The artist from Castellón Carlos Asensio Sanagustín is presenting his work ‘Glitch houses’ in the Menador Espacio Cultural multipurpose room until February 26, a series that criticizes the effects of deficient environmental management suffered by some landscapes until their degradation, generating a link with the ‘glitch’ effect or anomalies in an image in diptych format. This work, which is the continuation of the artist’s latest series, is the result of research carried out during his artistic residency in Berlin as part of the Hàbitat Artístic beques coordinated by the Department of Culture of the Castelló City Council in collaboration with GlogAuir in the German capital. .
The Councilor for Culture, Verònica Ruiz, has highlighted that these scholarships reinforce the commitment of this municipal government with the cultural sector and with our artists, with a new call that will bring together its committee of experts shortly to assess the numerous proposals that we have arrived”. “The Artistic Hàbitats are a true commitment to the artistic talent of Castelló, which we export to Barcelona and Berlin and which returns us 10-fold, with shared synergies”, remarked the councilor.
Development of Plastic Body
In his ‘Glitch houses’, Asensio has developed a theoretical and plastic body that examines the degradation of nature in the last 70 years. For which, he presents two original photographs from the 50s of the last century, taken by his ancestors and which are part of his personal archive, and together with each painting, he includes an interpretation of each image that has been digitally manipulated, with the aim of to create a vision of the current state of those landscapes that today are in a very degraded situation.
On the other hand, he has carried one of these works in the field of graphics, making a print run. The technique used has been a mixture of risography and serigraphy, in an attempt to experiment with its expressive possibilities.
Plastic artist and teacher, Carlos Asensio Sanagustín’s curriculum includes several individual exhibitions, among which we must mention those held at the Tomás y Valiente Art Center in Fuenlabrada, at the Municipal Museum of Albacete and the 14 Center of Alicante. As for group shows, he has exhibited both nationally and in Europe: GlogauAIR Open Studios, BAAM#3 at Monopolo Berlin, Atlas of Spanish Art 2021, Affordable Arte Fair in Amsterdam, Arte Madrid or Estampa, various editions of Marte Feria International Contemporary Art of Castelló, etc.
