Boris Johnson launches Prime Minister campaign by boasting only he can defeat Corbyn

The former Foreign Secretary launched his leadership bid by insisting only he could defeat Jeremy Corbyn and deliver leaving the EU.

He said: “Now is the time to unite this country and unite this society.

“We cannot begin that until we have delivered on the primary requirement of the people, that they asked us to do.

“After three years and two missed deadlines, we must leave the EU on October 31.”

Pledging to get out deal or no deal come October 31, Mr Johnson warned “delay means defeat”.

He continued: “Delay means Corbyn.

“Kick the can and we kick the bucket.”

Mr Johnson went on to warn that no deal could trigger massive problems for the economy.

He added: “I dont think we will end up with any such thing but it is only responsible to prepare.”

Boris also launched an attack on Corbyn, labelling the Labour leader “a real threat to our fundamental values and our way of life”.
